Kindergarten Fun

Jacob loves school, and with all the fun stuff that goes on, its not hard to see why. (He likes the learning part too.) At the end of February was the Hawk Hall Rush. It's a fundraiser where the kids (separated by grade) run the halls of the school--the only time this is allowed--completing as many laps as they can in the allotted time.
I love the look of concentration on his face in this picture.
After one or two laps, and getting enough pictures, I gave my camera to a friend and joined Jake in the race. The kid ran the entire 15 minutes and completed twelve laps! Way to go, little runner!
His class hosted a dinosaur museum for parents and siblings one morning. The junior paleontologists had lots of dinosaur facts to share and had even built a small scale stegosaurus. We enjoyed our tour.

A class play called "The Three Piggy Opera"--a very cute rendition of the story of the Three Little Pigs.

Jake's class did a geography unit that included a little rabbit named Felix. Each student sent their little traveling friend off somewhere, and then learned about the place when Felix was sent back to the class. We sent Felix to Washington to visit Nana and Papa. He came back dressed like a baseball player with lots of information and goodies about Bellingham & Whatcom County. Thanks again for letting Felix come visit!

Easter Eggs

Easter weekend contained way too many egg hunts this year, which equaled too many chocolate bunnies and jelly beans. Not that the kids were complaining in any way, shape, or form!
At the Nature Center, where they had to find eggs with a specific picture on it (a great idea when there are a hundred kids involved).

Showing off the loot from our backyard.

Dyeing hard boiled eggs...too bad not many of them were eaten after we colored them.

Spring Break

Our first official Spring Break. Nope, we didn't go anywhere. (I'm seriously amazed at how many families leave on vacation, like Disneyland vacation, during this break from school!) It was nice to have two kids home, because it meant a playmate for each other. Hallelujah!
The kids decided it was hilarious to dress Makenna up in as many of Jake's shirts and shorts as would fit. If I remember correctly, this little sumo wrestler had on 11 shirts (I don't remember how many shorts). Too funny.
An outing to the local zoo. Always fun, and always includes a ride on the Merry-go-Round.

Jake has art class at school, and one of his drawings was chosen to be a part of the District Art Show, which was on display to the public during Spring Break! It was titled "Cool Cat." He really enjoys drawing and coloring and it has been fun to see his skills progress this year. Go Jake!

House Remodel

The main floor of our home was about ninety percent tile. Brrr!! Cold! Especially since I don't like to wear shoes! So, what started out as a plea to put some nice carpet down over the tile (like a large area rug) turned into a huge remodeling project on two floors of the home (which, to date, is still not done). To save some money, Brian decided to jack the tile out, pull out the wood in the small front entryway, and take out the old carpet in the office in the back of the house. All. By. Himself. To add my two cents (actually, it was mostly me doing the talking), if we were going to lay carpet in back portion of the main floor, we ought to put it upstairs too. And if we were going to change out the carpet, it made sense to change out the railing that is on the stairs and catwalk from painted oak to black wrought iron (oh so pretty!). So, the tile is gone and carpet and new bamboo wood have been installed (professionally), but the stairs and railing are still under construction. Its been a weekend only job, since Brian is doing most of it himself. Slow going, but it will get done. The pics below are only before pictures. We'll save the after ones for when it is all done...whenever that is. ;)
Hard at work, making a HUGE, dusty mess

The kids can finally play in the back room again, albeit on the rough sub-floor wood. I can't tell you how many pairs of socks were thrown away during the project. Sub-floor does a number on them!

The one and only time she's allowed to ride a bike in the house!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Another year gone by, another birthday for Brian! How we love this man and are grateful for all that he is and does for our little family!

Jake thought it would be funny to steal Daddy's presents.
Mmmm...chocolate cake! Gotta lick the plate clean!

Snow Days

We've had lots of snowy days this winter! Lots of time for outdoor fun in the cold.

He'll play in the sandbox, summer or winter!
